More news from our two pilgrims. I just talked to David a few minutes ago. They are spending the evening in Cahors in a hostel. This town is were what remains of the Tour de France peloton is spending the evening also. David and Josh were tempted to go get their fix in the cyclist village, but apparently, all the druggies have gone home.
The two hikers will be able to rest up tonight in comfortable beds (I hope) before heading off tomorrow toward Lascabanes. They spent the previous evening under a bridge, and will appreciate sleeping on mattresses this evening. The least we can say is that they are in bad shape. Fortunately, David's tic bite infection is not an issue anymore, as that disappeared overnight last night. However, their bodies are exhausted and are lacking strength. Last week, Josh developed sever tendinitis because of the hiking shoes he had purchased for this walk. Consequently, he bought Mephisto sandals several days ago, as he could not walk with the other pair of shoes anymore. His feet are now full of blisters, which of course makes walking almost unbearable. However, they will have to keep on hiking so as to not fall back in their schedule. They may be a day ahead of schedule right now, but they do not believe they will be able to keep up the same pace (over 30 km/day, the past four days!).
In the past two or three days, their walk has led them through the Causse-du-Quercy national park. This is a beautiful region, which contrasts with the suffering our two heroes are enduring.
